Application Procedures

All individuals applying to the Biomedical Informatics Degree Program (including those who wish a specific concentration of study) must use the following procedures for preparing and submitting an application. Address for submission is provided below as well as in Application Form instructions.

There is a $40 application fee required, payable to the “University of Pittsburgh”. Attach check to cover page of your application.

Note: Individuals applying to the Biomedical Informatics Track of the Intelligent Systems Program must also submit an application to the ISP (in addition to submitting an application to the Biomedical Informatics Degree Program.) Refer to the ISP website at http://www.isp.pitt.edu. See also note below.

Please carefully fill the entire application form and be sure to include all information requested. Failure to do so will result in delays and possible return of your application.

All test results and transcripts must be submitted in original form. Also please be sure to include additional information required to be submitted with your application form (see page 2 of the application form for specifics).

The University of Pittsburgh code for ETS, IELTS, TOEFL, and GRE is 2927. The Department code for GRE is 0609 and the Department code for TOEFL is 45 (School of Medicine).


All materials listed above must be received by February 1, 2008 at the address given below for Fall 2008 admission consideration. Applications received after that date can be considered, contingent upon the availability of unallocated trainee positions.

Note that there is also an application fee required for the Intelligent Systems Program application and there is also a specific application form, as noted on their website. Acceptance to the Biomedical Informatics Track of the ISP requires a separate submission to and acceptance from the Center for Biomedical Informatics in addition to a separate submission to and acceptance from the Intelligent Systems Program.
